“Good Morning America” will showcase Maryland with crabcakes and crushes next week in Annapolis, as the show makes its seventh stop on its “America the Beautiful: 50 States in 50 Weeks.”
Filming in the order the states joined the Union, GMA correspondent Morgan Norwood will shoot the Maryland segment Thursday, airing live on ABC between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. Filming is closed to the public. Norwood will try dishes from Middleton Tavern in downtown Annapolis and hear from Maryland Park Service Director Angela Crenshaw about Harriet Tubman’s legacy.
“This is a really fun opportunity for us to connect with our viewers in the community, for us to learn, for us to engage and to talk a little bit of history as well,” Norwood said.
Middleton Tavern on City Dock is one of Maryland’s oldest businesses, opening in 1750 as an inn for sailors. Notable customers included George Washington and Benjamin Franklin. Norwood will meet with owner Sophia Hardesty to try crabcakes with Old Bay and orange crush mocktails.
Norwood will also speak with Crenshaw, who was named Maryland Woman of the Year 2025 by USA Today for her advocacy for environmental rights and African American history. Crenshaw helped open the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad State Park in Dorchester County in 2017, and became the first Black woman to lead Maryland’s park service in 2023.
“This is all about not just hearing her story, but in hopes that her story can inspire someone else,” Norwood said.
With viewers all across the country, Norwood said the “America the Beautiful” series is meant to celebrate the country’s beauty and learn more about each state’s history. The series began the week of July 4 in Delaware, and will lead up to the country’s 250th anniversary July 4, 2026 – coinciding with GMA’s 50th anniversary.
