Each week throughout the fall season, The Aegis will select players of the week in each sport. The public will then have the opportunity to vote which of the individual sport selections will earn the honor of overall Harford County Player of the Week. Voting will run through the end of the day Wednesday and readers can vote once per hour.
Here are the Athletes of the Week through the first full week of the season, from Sept. 5 through Sept. 14.
Football
Kyion Greenwood, Edgewood
Greenwood, a do-it-all threat for the undefeated Rams, has five touchdowns through two games this season. Three of those are at running back and two more came on kickoff returns. Alongside quarterback Michael Robinson, Greenwood is fueling Edgewood’s 2-0 start to the season.
Boys soccer
Owen Davis, C. Milton Wright
Davis scored five times last week, including the Mustangs’ first three goals in a 5-0 win last Wednesday over Rising Sun and a pair of second-half scores in a comeback victory over Fallston on Friday. Davis will be the focal point of the C. Milton Wright attack after the reigning state champions graduated a strong senior class.
Girls soccer
Blake Elliott, C. Milton Wright
The junior is leading a Mustangs team that reached the state title game a year ago but is going through growing pains this fall. Elliott tallied six goals and one assist through five games, scoring at least once in each contest.
Field hockey
Peyton Dawson, North Harford
The goalkeeper has 39 saves so far this season, allowing just seven scores through four games in a tough nonconference slate for the Hawks.
Girls volleyball
Macie Kane, Bel Air
Through Sunday, in only nine sets so far this season, Kane has 18 kills (a 0.441 hitting efficiency) and leads the Bobcats in aces with 10. Ten of those kills came in a 3-0 win against cross-town rival Patterson Mill last Tuesday. Kane’s squad is 2-1 on the season.
Boys volleyball
Joey Gross, Fallston
The Cougars are 4-0, and Gross is a big reason why. He’s totaled 29 kills, 18 aces and five blocks in four games, while Gross’ team has lost just three sets all year.
Cross country
Chris Novak, Patterson Mill
Novak ran 17 minutes, 2.8 seconds to finish eighth amongst a talented field at Saturday’s Richard Barnhart Invitational, hosted by Dulaney. His time is 27 seconds better than any other Harford County athlete has ran so far this season.
