Owings Mills all girls’ school Garrison Forest School will have a new head, its 14th in more than a century, starting in July 2027, the president of its board of trustees announced Thursday.
Monica Rodriguez will succeed interim head Ann Teaff. Rodriguez was unanimously recommended by the Head of School Search Committee and unanimously approved by the Board of Trustees, board president George Sakellaris wrote. Rodriguez currently serves as the head of the Montessori School of Raleigh and Carolina Preparatory Academy in North Carolina, a role she’s held since 2020.
“She has led successfully through the pandemic, strengthened enrollment, expanded academic and co-curricular offerings, and built structures to enhance faculty development, student safety, and community engagement,” Sakellaris wrote.
“My family and I are absolutely delighted to be joining the Garrison Forest community,” Rodriguez was quoted in the announcement. “The strength, spirit, and promise of the students that I already met reflect an extraordinary institution. The school’s commitment to empowering young women is exciting, and I cannot wait to partner with students, faculty, administrators, alumnae, and parents as we reflect on the school’s remarkable legacy and bright future.”
Rodriguez and her family will move into the head of school’s residence, Lochinvar. She holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Spanish Language and Literature, according to her LinkedIn profile.
“I see Garrison Forest poised for a bold and transformative next chapter—one defined by innovation and collaboration,” Rodriguez said. “There is an opportunity for academic advancement, philanthropic expansion, and deeper engagement with all constituent groups within the community.”
The search process for the next head of school began in spring 2025 after the departure of former head Chris Hughes, who left to serve as the Associate Head of School at Rye Country Day School in Rye, New York.
