Heavy winds across Maryland pose a fire risk as low humidity, warmer temperatures and gusty conditions could ignite and spread wildfires, according to the National Weather Service.
A Red Flag Warning, issued when conditions are could contribute to extreme fire behavior, has been issued for parts of Prince George’s, Anne Arundel, Charles, St. Mary’s, Calvert, Montgomery and Howard counties, and will remain in effect until 6 p.m. Sunday.

Hazardous weather warnings have been issued for the rest of the region due to the expectation that wind speeds will reach anywhere between 20 and 50 mph Sunday and Monday.
Although the risk is higher in the Red Flag counties, the NWS advised residents and visitors throughout the state to properly dispose of cigarette butts, matches and other flammable items in appropriate containers, and to exercise caution if operating any equipment that could create sparks.
People should keep vehicles off dry grass because it could easily ignite, along with dead leaves and other tree litter. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
For the Baltimore area, a wind advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. Sunday. Wind speeds throughout the day are predicted to range from 21 to 47 mph and could result in sporadic wind damage, the NWS said.
Sunday’s conditions are expected to be sunny with a high of 48. Sunday night should be mostly clear with a low of 37. Wind speeds are likely to slow to a maximum speed around 33 mph Sunday evening.
Wind speeds are projected to peak at 28 mph Monday for the Baltimore area. Sunny skies are predicted, along with a high near 50. Temperatures are forecast to drop to 33 Monday night, with wind speeds expected to reach around 9 mph.
There’s a chance of rain after 1 p.m. Tuesday with slight wind. Partly sunny skies are forecast throughout the day, accompanied by a high of 50.
Cloudy skies are predicted to set in Tuesday night, and the chance of rain increases. The low of the evening is predicted to be 41.
Wednesday’s forecast is mostly cloudy, with a high of 54. Mostly cloudy skies are predicted to run into Wednesday evening, with a low of 44.
Thursday should be mostly cloudy with a high near 58. There’s a chance of rain Thursday evening, accompanied by cloudy skies and a low of 46.
The chance of rain extends into Friday. Conditions throughout the day are expected to be mostly cloudy. Friday’s high is forecast to be around 64, dropping to 50 in the evening.
