Celebrate the holiday season in Carroll County with events for all ages. From Maryland-themed holiday ballets to traditional tree lightings, here’s what’s happening across the county this winter.
Coppermine Cascade Lights: Winter Wonderland
Coppermine’s Cascade Lights event will run through Dec. 23 at Coppermine Cascade Park, 2844 Snydersburg Road, Hampstead. The venue is primarily open Fridays through Sundays, starting at 5:30 p.m. Themed nights such as Sensory Friendly Night, Character Night, Sip and Stroll, Pup Strut, Christmas Magic Show and Contest Night are all planned.
Visitors can stroll through a half-mile walking trail featuring holiday lights and decorated trees. Attractions include a decorated playground area, Santa visits, children’s train ride, snowball experience, axe-throwing and more. Food trucks, hot chocolate, and adult beverages are available each night.

12th Annual Sykesville Holiday Marketplace
The Carroll County Agriculture Center in Westminster will host the 12th annual Sykesville Holiday Market on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with more than 150 vendors selling handmade crafts, decorations, jewelry, food and drinks. Miracle on Main Street
Westminster’s annual Miracle on Main Street returns Saturday from noon to 9 p.m. Children can enjoy crafts, games and face painting with Mr. and Mrs. Claus before 4 p.m. at the Westminster Family Fitness Center, 11 Longwell Ave., Westminster.
Visitors can also browse holiday vendors from noon to 8 p.m. on Paide Way, join the 5 p.m. Jingle Bell Run, watch the 5 p.m. holiday electric parade or enjoy the holiday lights with free hot cocoa from 6 to 8 p.m.

Westminster Holiday Lighting Ceremony
Carroll County will hold its holiday lighting on Dec. 3 at 5 p.m. on the Center Street steps of the county government office building, with the tree and menorah lighting at 5:30 p.m.
Visitors can see Santa’s arrival by firetruck, enjoy a performance by the Carroll County government employee chorus, The Carroll Tones, and take part in refreshments and festive activities. New Windsor Christmas Tree Lighting
New Windsor’s Fountain Park will host the town’s annual Christmas tree lighting on Dec. 3 from 6 to 7:30 p.m., with live music, kids’ crafts, hot cocoa and a visit from Santa. Find out more at newwindsormd.gov/events/christmas-tree-lighting-2/.
12 Hours of Christmas on Main Street
Sykesville’s 12 Hours of Christmas returns on Dec. 5, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Main Street with shopping specials, festive treats, hot chocolate and a visit from Santa between 5 to 9 p.m.
Visitors can participate in a raffle for a chance to win a gift basket, receiving one ticket for every $5 spent at any participating Downtown Sykesville merchant. Head over to 7566 Main St., Sykesville to join in. Find out more at downtownsykesville.com/merchant-events/.
A Main Street Christmas: Tree Lighting and Santa Parade
From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 6, Mount Airy will hold their tree lighting and Santa parade along Main Street. The street will be closed to traffic, allowing visitors to safely explore downtown, enjoy local shops and restaurants and celebrate the season with the community.
The tree lighting will begin at 5:30 at the Historic Mount Airy Station, 1 N. Main St., followed by the Santa parade at 6:30 p.m. from 405 N. Main St. to 403 S. Main St. mountairymd.gov/342/A-Main-Street-Christmas.
Polar Express Santa Wagon Rides
Carroll County Recreation & Parks is hosting Santa Wagon Rides at Piney Run Park on Dec. 6 and 7 between 11:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Participants can ride with Santa, hear a reading of “The Polar Express” by the fire, make s’mores and ornaments, enjoy hot chocolate and receive a souvenir mug to take home. Winter Market at Carroll Community College
Carroll Community College in Westminster will host its Winter Market on Dec. 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., featuring family activities, dozens of local small businesses, free children’s crafts, a snow globe photo booth and food trucks. The Maryland Nutcracker by Ballet Embody
Ballet Embody will present The Maryland Nutcracker at Carroll Community College Theatre, 1601 New Washington Road, Westminster on Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 14 at 2 p.m. The company’s original holiday ballet features Maryland-themed touches and local landmarks.
